Position Overview: 
Responsible for the direction and coordination of US and Canadian payroll administration. The payroll and Benefit Specialist is responsible for executing on all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives, including relationships with external auditors and state, provincial, and federal agencies. Additionally, this role is responsible for the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan. This position requires an extremely detail orientated person with previous experience and knowledge of payroll systems and benefits.
Essential Job Functions: 
  • Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data using and HRIS system to produce accurate and timely payroll for multiple sites including those in Canada.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state, provincial, and federal wage and hour laws and maintains current knowledge of such.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports gross payroll, hours worked, PTO/vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.
  • Facilitates management and employee training and understanding of HRIS usage, payroll procedures, benefits, deductions, etc.
  • Stays current on the HRIS system (Dayforce) to ensure effective system usage and support.
  • Updating and maintaining employee information in the time clock system including entering of new hires and terminations in Dayforce.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Performs new-hire orientations, onboarding, offboarding, VOE, and distributes benefits enrollment materials.
  • Responds to benefits questions from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and other general inquiries.
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests, disability paperwork, disability and FMLA.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
  • Leads and administers the open enrollment process.
  • Maintains payroll, benefit, FMLA, and various employee files
  • Other duties may be assigned as business necessitates.

Education and Experience/Knowledge Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience with payroll & benefits
Desirable Skills/Attributes: 
  • Experience with Ceridian/Dayforce Payroll & HRIS System
  • Experience with Alberta payroll & benefit administration
  • Familiarity with Alberta employment law
  • Experience with Ontario payroll & benefit administration
  • Familiarity with Ontario employment law
Physical Demands: 
  • Able to work in a standard office environment
  • Occasional travel, less than 10%
